Dev Patel's first venture into directing left fans eager for more behind-the-scenes work from the actor, and rightly so. Set in the fictional city of Yatana, modelled on present-day Mumbai, Patel takes on the role of a young man seeking revenge for his mother's death, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In a thrilling two-hour journey, the film delves into issues of class inequality, corruption and religion. Patel is joined by fellow actors Pitobash, Sikandar Kher and Sobhita Dhulipala.

Monkey Man is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Challengers

Luca Guadagnino, an Oscar-nominated director, won over both tennis enthusiasts and newcomers with this gripping sports drama.

Zendaya takes the lead role as Tashi Duncan, a pro player whose career is cut short by an injury. Despite her setback, she remains passionate about the sport and decides to coach her husband Art Donaldson (played by Mike Faist) as he goes head-to-head with his ex-best mate Patrick Zweig for a coveted grand slam title.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear there's a love triangle at play between the trio.

Challengers can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

This gothic flick from Yorgos Lanthimos has certainly split opinions.

Emma Stone, who bagged an Oscar for her performance, stars as Bella, a young woman resurrected by a scientist (Willem Dafoe). In a nod to Frankenstein, she wakes up in her adult body but with the mind of a baby.

Over the course of two hours, the film explores themes of identity, sexual freedom and female independence. Mark Ruffalo also features alongside Stone.

Poor Things can be streamed on Disney Plus.

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 delves back into the mind of teenager Riley, following on from the success of Pixar's 2015 hit. This time, she grapples with teenage emotions like anxiety, jealousy, embarrassment and boredom.

Although the sequel ramps up the tension, it maintains its comedic edge.

Amy Poehler reprises her role as the voice of Joy, joined by The Bear star Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Maya Hawke as Anxiety and The Office's Phyllis Smith as Sadness.

Inside Out 2 can be streamed on Disney Plus.

His journey through grief and love is underscored by a romantic entanglement with his neighbour (portrayed by Paul Mescal). All of Us Strangers has been widely praised, bagging a Best British Independent Film award and a Best Director nod for Andrew Haigh at the British Independent Film Awards in December 2023.

American Fiction

Taking a satirical swipe at the American publishing industry, American Fiction scooped up five Oscar nominations.

Adapted from Percival Everett's 2001 novel, Erasure, it charts the story of a disgruntled author and professor whose books aren't selling despite being highly regarded by his academic peers. Fed up with the industry, he writes a novel filled with racial stereotypes to ridicule the system. The novel, amusingly named F***, becomes a huge hit.

Led by Jeffrey Wright, the drama delivers incisive commentary on Black representation in media.

American Fiction can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

The Iron Claw

Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness) and wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman form an impressive cast in this biographical drama.

Based on the 'true' tale of the Von Erich wrestling clan, The Iron Claw charts the family's ascent and descent, honing in on the tragic incidents that the brothers referred to as the 'Von Erich curse'. It explores themes of family, mourning, celebrity, and toxic masculinity.

The Iron Claw can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
