Terror knows many forms. It could be the ghost in your bed (or head), the leering Uncle, the power-mad authority figure, the religious zealot basking in willful ignorance or, perhaps, most terrifying of all, you. There is a potential killer in every single one of us. It just takes the roll of the worst dice of the world and the most disturbing threads of your id can come alive. This is a thought that plays well outside most people's comfort zone, especially since to acknowledge such a thing is t

Gaspar Noé Dario Argento, Françoise Lebrun, Alex Lutz, Kylian Dheret On November 5th director Gaspar Noé is visiting us in KINO for a double bill and to talk about cinema. We’re screening a preview of Vortex and Gerald Kargl’s Angst (1983), which was a major influence on Noe’s work and was banned for years, only to get distributed in 2015. After the screening of Vortex, our resident visual artist Baris Azman will have a conversation with Noe about his latest film, his cinematic favorites and of course, Angst (1983). Both films will be screened with English subtitles. Scroll down below for the program. Vortex The only thing scarier than death might be the loss of one's mind. It can therefore be stated that Gaspar Noé latest and most personal film is also his most frightening, as he immerses the viewer in split-screen fashion into the last days of an elderly couple struck by dementia and physical decay. Noé specifically had Italian director and Giallo legend Dario Argento in mind for the male lead, of which we will screen two classic films in the coming months (Opera and Profondo Rosso). Vortex is in many ways a matured work by a director that often ventures into the realm of the unknown and unthinkable to investigate that which we are mostly unable to articulate. This film left us speechless and quite weary of the inevitable.
